As we move into December, the team is now in a full bug-fixing and polish mode, where all the new major features have been locked down. The team is now dedicated to fixing as many outstanding bugs as possible before entering large scale community play-testing. Please give us your strength during this time!
In return, we'd like to give you a preview of what the following major patch will contain. As always, these features are still in development and may vary in their final form. Stick with us for more development updates!
Upcoming Version Feature Preview
Coming in the next major version (Alpha v10), Squad gameplay as you know it will change dramatically. The Animation System overhaul may not sound like it changes much aside from aesthetics, but it is going to revolutionize how the game will be played. On top of that, several other changes to gameplay will mix things up quite a bit.
Infantry Movement Changes

Transitioning time from sprinting to getting your weapon up and aiming down the sights has been slightly increased from the previous value. The effect of this is that sprinting, as in real life, actually puts you in a vulnerable position. Constant running and gunning will put you at a disadvantage compared to a soldier who is crouching and already steadily aiming down sights. We're seeing that more careful movement is needed on the personal level, and more tactical movement is required as a team: bounding overwatch will become a much more important thing. (Bounding Overwatch:...
Ashitaka... The Love Hawk. No one knows for sure why such name was given to the sacred mountain sitting alongside the renowned Mount Fuji.
Then what would a foreign alien species from the future imagine upon discovering a lost warship with the name such as this?
Would they imagine the ship to soar like a hawk? What would the word "love" in its name depict? The bewilderment and confusion of the aliens can be seen portrayed on the reincarnated warship's architecture.
It seems, however, that the foreign species at least understood the concept of "love"; as its characters are portrayed on the hull, white as a virgin snow.
Ashitaka is a typical Japanese battleship, heavily armed with several 410-mm guns. Thanks to the guns’ long range, Ashitaka is great at artillery duels with enemy cruisers and battleships at long to medium distance. In close quarters, the 140-mm guns of the secondary armament pose quite a threat to the lighter ships.
Ship’s maximum speed is 30 knots, which is one of the best at her level. However, what she gains in speed, she lacks in AA-defense.
- Powerful 10-gun 410-mm artillery
- Great maximum speed for the class - 30 knots
- Solid secondary armament that includes 140-mm AP weaponry
- Increased credit income, and +50% XP earned per battle, thanks to her permanent camouflage
A special Makoto Kobayashi inspired camouflage will sweeten the deal for those, who get the bundle.
This camouflage has the following bonuses:
- -3% to...
A new Update is now live! Take a look at the highlights to learn more about what's new. Check the game's official website for a full list of changes: https://worldofwarships.com/news/common/update-0614/.
Update 0.6.14 brings a new line of Pan-Asian ships, with one Tier I cruiser and nine destroyers. The new line also carries a new type of weapon: Deepwater Torpedoes. These explosive fish are hard to spot and dangerous, with their small detection radius and increased chances of flooding an enemy ship—perfect for facing off against enemy cruisers and battleships. However, this advantage comes at a price—the new torpedoes cannot hit other destroyers.
You’ll also be able to deploy a unique "Smoke Generator" consumable with unconventional stats, which should come in handy when facing enemy destroyers. It provides efficient cover with a short cooldown time, extended deployment time, and a shorter smoke duration, perfect for retreating after an unfortunate encounter or when laying down a massive barrage on enemy ships.
Go boldly and put your skills to the test in the new "The Ultimate Frontier" Operation.
As the battlefront closes in, a research project on the Rouen Atoll falls under threat of persistent air strikes. A group of transport aircraft speed to Rouen with a mission to evacuate all personnel and documentation to avoid a catastrophe.
A two-phase operation in which you escort the transport aircraft to the aerodrome while destroying enemy ships posing any danger to them. Once that task is complete, you will have to hold the aerodrome,...
Last week, World of Warships was launched on Steam, and we are happy to have so many talented commanders aboard. We hope that we will have a lot of intense battles together: show all your courage and strategic thinking. Feel free to recommend the game to your friends, the more the merrier!
Steam is a new platform for us, so, unfortunately, some unexpected issues occurred. The majority of them have been dealt with, here are some more details:
— There’s been a lot of discussion among the Chinese community regarding our stance on the political geography of ASIA, specifically concerning Taiwanese sovereignty in regards to a comment made in reply to a customer’s support ticket. That comment does not constitute the official position of Wargaming.net, but the personal view of that employee. As a company, we do not have a political stance. You can read more details here: https://ssg-clan.com.
— Some players have reported incorrect translations in Simplified Chinese. Good news here: we are currently working to make it better to match the other versions. The fixed version will appear as soon as possible.
— A few people encountered an ‘Endless synchronization’ error when logging in with a Korean IP address. This problem was resolved asap, so welcome to the game! If you are still having problems, please submit a report to our Customer Service Center: https://wargaming.net/support/.
— Many of you would like to have Steam Workshop available for World of Warships. We also think it’s a great idea. To make it happen, there are some client tweaks to be made, and we are working on them at the moment....
Alpha 9.15 is here and we're sneaking the first iteration of modding support out with it. Presenting the Squad Workshop. Please make sure to check out the notes for more information!
- Fixed Custom Servers browser showing licensed servers.
- Changed Yeho Invasion 2 Final Stand flag minimum enemies to capture the flag to 3 like all other flags.
- Fixed a weapons cache spawning in a closed building on Logar Night Insurgency.
- Mestia: Fixed issues with vehicle claiming and vehicle respawns.
- Mestia: Did more adjustments to the lighting.
- Mestia: Regarding a performance issue some users have reported - we are able to reproduce it on one of our systems now. Unfortunately, it's not an easy fix. The affected GPUs need for a certain operation more than twenty times as long as otherwise comparable GPUs. We are still working on a solution. The only way to reduce this issue for now is lowering the ingame resolution.
- Added initial gameside support for modding and steam workshop integration. Custom servers are now allowed to run modded maps. Players trying to join a modded server will be directed to the Steam Workshop if they aren't subscribed to the required mods. Read more about modding in the upcoming Modding Recap article. Instructions to get started on modding can be found in the modding section of the wiki: https://squad.gamepedia.com/Category:Modding.
- Changed game files to packaged format to allow mod packs to be loaded. This causes an increased update size and update install time.
We're very, very excited to finally have this in your hands. Hit us with your feedback!...

We're bringing you another recap, fresh off the presses. This recap contains some of the most recent efforts each of the teams have put into Squad to show off their work, and what's coming down the road for Squad. The development team remains hard at work, so be sure to check back to see how everything is progressing, especially that new map!
Animation System Progress
Since the last devblog[joinsquad.com] on the animation system, we've continued to make progress at a steady rate, replicating features like Bipods and Freelook over the network. There have been some engineering challenges as we look at how to deal with bipods over the network and the way the player interacts with the surrounding obstacles as you swivel around. Regardless, progress is being made day by day, and we'll keep you updated as major developments here happen.
One system we managed to serendipitously add was a collision detection system to weapons. When you are up against a wall or obstacle, depending on the length of your weapon, it will lower out of the way and prevent you from firing and aiming down the sights. This will add another layer to weapon balance, especially when dealing with close quarter battle situations where bringing a shorter weapon would allow you to be more maneuverable. Pistols...
During our Kickstarter campaign we held a vote to see which map from Project Reality you, the community, wanted us to remake for SQUAD. Fallujah clearly won that vote and was put on the roadmap. At that time, we were still learning a lot about the engine and how to efficiently tackle level construction in Unreal 4.
We started with barren desert maps like Kohat, then started adding more complexity seen in maps like Chora and Sumari. From there, we explored the Eastern European setting with large forests on maps like Fools Road, Gorodok, and Yehorivika.
Next, we pushed on to an urban setting on Narva, all the while knowing that Fallujah was one of the key maps that we were working towards. Upon the release of Narva, we began pre-production on Fallujah. At this stage we knew we wanted to take some extra time to brainstorm how we approach gameplay and visuals, because of this we decided to revisit our workflow and we really think it has paid off.
The first thing we did was spend about a week reference digging. We wanted to gather tons of inspiration and sources to help us capture the essence of Fallujah.
In order to stay organized and to produce things in phases we broke the city up into four key recognizable districts: Outskirts, Industrial, Urban Residential and Urban Center, each contributing to the map in a unique way both in visuals and gameplay. Defining these districts allowed us to plan out the flow of the map and also breakdown the production of the assets into manageable phases....
